A Class Forsaken by Susie Murphy

Spoiler Alert this review is for Book Three in A Matter of Class.

****

The third book in Susie Murphy's compelling historical series A Matter of Class will be published tomorrow. I was lucky enough to read an early copy of the book which continues the story of Bridget and Cormac. The young couple arrive in Cork with their young daughter Emily. While they are determined to make a life together, they are destined to be haunted by their past at every turn. They make their way across the country, desperate for news of Cormac's family. They find their way to their old home; the Oakleigh estate and find it in disarray under the management of Bridget's mother. As unrest brews Bridget and Cormac face threat once more but when they hear news of Cormac's family they set off for Dublin determined to reunite with them and to right the wrongs of the past. The storytelling in this instalment of Bridget and Cormac's story is just as compelling as the previous two books. Susie Murphy's writing is powerful, romantic and absolutely page turning. Once again I was pulled into the story by the powerful storytelling and the carefully crafted and fully rounded characters. While I rooted for Bridget and Cormac every step of the way, they are not perfect. Bridget is often proud and stubborn and Cormac has a past he is not proud of; but their love for each other and for their small daughter wins through. If you enjoy historical fiction and enjoy the work of authors like Hazel Gaynor. Nicola Cassidy, Kath McGurl or A. O'Connor then you will adore Susie Murphy's books.
