Murder at the Loch by Dee McDonald

Ally has moved to the highlands to run a Bed and Breakfast at the old malthouse, much to the chagrin of her grown up children and providing a rich source of gossip for some of the locals.

On an otherwise calm and beautiful morning in the highlands, Ally is walking her dog Flora at the loch, she meets her friend Hamish the local laird, who surprises her by telling her he's about to get married, to a young woman he barely knows, but surprise is followed by horror when Hamish and Ally see something floating in the loch and it turns out to be a murdered young woman.

The town gossips go into overdrive both about the murder of the mysterious young woman and the impending marriage of the 70 year old laird. As wedding preparations and a murder investigation keep the town busy, there's another shocking murder and Ally finds herself mixed up in all of it, and with the help of her new partner, retired vet Ross she may just solve the mystery before the police.

This series is an absolute delight, the characters are fantastic, so well written with an intriguing setting and brilliant storytelling. I cannot wait to continue Ally's adventures.

The second book in Dee McDonald's Ally McKinley mystery series is a fantastic cozy mystery perfect for fans of Hamish MacBeth or Anthony Horowitz's Susan Ryeland Books.

I was delighted to be asked to review this book as part of a blog tour for BOOKOUTURE.

Here is the lovely author herself. You can read more of Ally's adventures in Murder in the Scottish Highlands, and the third in the series is publishing later in the year.
