The Witch House By Ann Rawson

Alice Hunter is just out of Brookfields hospital having suffered a breakdown and still grieving the death of her grandmother when she stumbles across the body of Harry Rook. Harry was a friend and one of the trustees of her estate. Alice is very shaken up by Harry's apparent murder, especially when a few days later, she's arrested. There are ritual markings around Harry's body and Alice lives at The Witch House. Her grandmother was once High Priestess of The Cuckmere Coven. Pressure is mounting on Alice. She has a demanding mother, her best friend is no longer speaking to her and the whole town seems to think she's a murderer and a madwoman.
The one thing she had been looking forward to after being released from hospital was an an archaeology course at the local college and she turns to the handsome profesor who runs the course for help. Her grandmother had been an amateur archaeologist herself and kept some replica Roman silverwear which Alice wants to find out more about.
As if things weren't hard enough Alice also has a stalker and as the pressure mounts Alice begins to doubt herself. Is someone out to get her? or is she really mad?
This a fantastic page turner, a family drama, a psychological thriller, a mystery, a coming of age story and a terrific tale of friendship and found family. Ann Rawson is a powerful storyteller with a a gift for character and nuance. I really enjoyed this well written thriller and look forward to reading more from the author in the future. Thanks so much to Red Dog Press for a copy of the book. The Witch House is out now.
