Margaret Skea has previously written a trilogy of historical novels set in Scotland at the end of the Sixteenth Century a time of war, violence and religious upheaval.
Her newest endeavour is a bio fiction examination of the life Katharina von Bora, a young German woman sent away to a convent at a very young age who begins to question the truth of those around her and the strictures and dogma of the religious life. As Germany encounters violence, insurrection, revolt and reformation Katharina escapes to become the help mate and eventually the wife of Martin Luther.
Once again Margaret Skea has written about a time of violence and religious war with insight and impeccable attention to detail. Her portrait of Katharina's coming of age and spiritual growth is fascinating. Katharina is wonderfully brought to life by Skea's skillful writing.
This book will appeal to readers of historical fiction, especially fans of Carol McGrath, Catherine Meyrick, Tonya Ulynn Brown and Helen Steadman.
