Book Review The Midnight Hour by Eve Chase

I am delighted to be one of the participants on the blog tour for Eve Chase's new novel The Midnight Hour. I'm a big fan of Eve's writing and once again she has produced a masterful tale. The Midnight Hour is a page turning mystery perfect for book clubs and full of family drama, secrets and heartache.

Set in two time periods; 1990s Notting Hill and contemporary London and Paris The Midnight Hour is the story of Maggie and her little brother Kit. In fashionable Notting Hill in the late 1990s teenager Maggie is desperate to fit in but after a childhood in the country she feels entirely out of place and she's grieving her father whose death in a car accident left her reeeling. Then one summer night her mother doesn't come home. She's desperately worried but her mother is a well known face, a model a TV personality and Maggie is concious that raising the alarm could bring unwanted attention to her already fragile Mum.

Instead wandering the streets of Notting Hill with Kit in tow she meets Wolf and falls in love. Life seems perfect except for the nagging worry about her Mum, but then reality comes crashing in and nothing will ever be the same again.

In the present day Maggie is a successful writer living in Paris when a phone call out of the blue, brings that summer crashing back in to her life. Her old family home in Notting Hill is being developed and the garden is being dug up. Maggie knows that there are secrets buried in that garden that could ruin lives and she is desperate to stop Kit from finding out what happened when he was just a child.

A poignant portrayal of grief, young love and the bonds of family. You won't want to miss this if you are a fan of Eve Chase's previous work, or the work of Hannah Richell, Kate Morton or Harriet Evans

Thank you to Michael Joseph for a copy of the book. The Midnight Hour is published today 27th June 2024 and available in hardback, e-book and audio book.
